October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and at Competition BMW, we are proud to support the fight against breast cancer. Our staff has worn pink throughout the month to show solidarity with those affected by this disease. We are partnering with Pink Aid, the only national non-profit organization providing compassionate support and urgent financial assistance to patients in dire need. Pink Aid helps cover essential costs like transportation to treatment, groceries, and other basic necessities. This year, we sponsored and attended the LI Pink Rocks Broadway event at the Paramount in Huntington, NY, celebrating our community’s commitment to this vital cause. Coincidentally, our dealership principal, Joe, was casually driving along the local Ronkonkoma, Blue Point and Ridge roads when fate led him to Tim. Tim was also enjoying the local Long Island area. Tim was also driving to Starbucks. Differing from Mr. Buzzetta, Tim was not traveling in a vehicle, he was taking strides in his remote wheelchair. As fate would have it, Joe had his father's, and deceased founder's, handicap-accessible 2020 Honda Odyssey van on hand. Competition Auto Group and Competition BMW are indescribably proud to donate Joe Buzzetta Sr.'s wheelchair-accessible van to Tim! Tim is so excited to gain back access to his license, and most importantly, a grander scale of independence! The best ways to prevent COVID-19 is to stay home and practice social distancing. However, many of us here on Long Island still need to leave our homes. Whether it be for work or a trip to the supermarket, there are a few things we can do to help prevent the spread of germs and diseases like the coronavirus. Professionals say washing our hands frequently and avoiding touching our faces can help lower the spread of COVID-19. However, be sure to also clean the things you touch frequently. Here at Competition BMW of Smithtown, we compiled a list of helpful tips when it comes to sanitizing your vehicle. Utilize Soap and Water When it comes to fighting germs, using soap and water is highly recommended when cleaning your vehicle’s interior. Autoblog shares with us that the trick is to avoid any cleaners that are labeled as being free of detergents. For those with leather interiors, makeup removal wipes are a great alternative. Now that may sound a bit odd but, skin care products usually contain moisturizers which is great for organic trim materials. Be aware of which cleaning products you will be using to clean the inside of your vehicle. Staying clean and getting rid of germs is extremely important right now, however you do not want to ruin the interior of your car! Feel free to contact us or schedule an appointment at our BMW Service Center. We offer exterior and interior detailing services. Scrub Your Interior Use disinfectant wipes or soapy water to thoroughly scrub the hard surfaces inside of your vehicle. Areas around the driver’s seat and passenger seat like the windows and center console should be cleaned extremely well. These areas are more likely to be hit with droplets when a person is to sneeze or cough. Don’t Forget About High-Touch Surfaces Areas like door handles, audio controls, seatbelts, mirrors, climate controls, steering wheels, etc. should be cleaned extremely well since these areas are frequently touched. Don't forget to clean the touch-screen infotainment system if you have one in your BMW! Soft Surfaces The CDC recommends using a cleaner that is appropriate for whatever material is being cleaned. For example, if you are cleaning leather, you would want to use a Leather Cleaner or Vinyl Cleaner. For vehicle carpets and upholstery, it would be wise to use carpet or upholstery cleaner. Use Rubber Gloves When cleaning your vehicle, we recommend using disposable gloves as they help prevent the spread of viruses such as COVID-19. After cleaning, be sure to dispose of your gloves and wash your hands thoroughly. To our customers, Like so many of you, we have spent the last several days and weeks learning about the coronavirus (COVID-19) and how it is impacting our world. For Competition BMW of Smithtown, that means understanding how it affects our employees, customers and communities, and then making the necessary adjustments to our work and operations. We have one simple objective that guides us: keeping you and our employees safe. This has been at the center of our conversations every step of the way. With that in mind, we have made several moves in our business in response to the threat of the coronavirus. We have ramped up cleaning services at our stores and are adding hand sanitizer at the front entrances and at all cash registers. Sanitizing wipes are near workstations and counters so that employees can keep them continuously cleaned. We are closely following the Centers for Disease Control's (CDC) guidelines and recommendations on the steps we can take to help prevent the spread of the virus. We have shared specific instructions with our employees on the importance of washing their hands and staying home if they feel sick or are returning from an area of the world identified as posing a coronavirus-related risk. Per CDC recommendations, we will ask employees who have traveled to such locations or have been exposed to others who have traveled to such locations to self-quarantine for 14 days. A strict travel policy for our employees is in place, and we have canceled meetings with large gatherings, again to do what we can to help prevent the spread of the illness. If you don't feel well, or choose not to visit one of our stores, of course we are ready to serve you through many virtual buying and servicing options. The BMW logo has gone through a handful of changes ever since their first logo back in 1917. BMW just recently redesigned their logo, and its new design is seen as the biggest redesign the brand has ever had. The new BMW logo retains the same shape, the middle still has the same blue and white colors, however, the font has been shaped differently and the outer ring now has a flat design in white. Jens Thiemer, Senior Vice President Customer & Brand BMW, explains “The new communication logo radiates openness and clarity. With this new transparent variant, we want to invite our customers more than ever to become part of the BMW world.” With the introduction of the all electric BMW Concept i4 electric car, the brands new look stands for the mobility of the future and marks the start of the electric revolution at BMW. In addition, Thiemer explains, “our new brand design is geared to the challenges and opportunities of Digitization for brands. With visual restraint and graphic we are equipping ourselves flexibly for the wide variety of contact points in communication at which BMW will show its presence online and offline in the future.” BMW shares with us the evolution of their logo over the past century. Leonard Hilton McGurr, more commonly known as FUTURA 2000, has teamed up with BMW to design a special edition M2. Futura 2000 The iconic contemporary New York-based artist is known for his mastery of color, concentric forms and kinetic composition. In the late 1960s McGurr found the world to be his canvas. Creating beautiful works of graffiti with an abstract twist on subway passages around New York City, his passion for graffiti art began. BMW M8 GTE Earns Back to Back Daytona GTLM Victories BMW Team RLL won the opening round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Daytona for the second season in a row. John Edwards, Jesse Krohn, Augusto Farfus and Chaz Mostert took victory in the GTLM class at the wheel of the #24 MOTUL BMW M8 GTE at D aytona International Speedway. IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship shares with us that from the start, the strongest contenders appeared to be the two Porsche 911 RSR's for Porsche GT Team and the two BMW M8 GTE's for BMW Team RLL. The winning BMW M8 GTE finished first before the two Porsche vehicles which placed in second and third place. The #25 BMW M8 GTE finished in fifth place. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is a nonprofit, scientific and educational organization which is dedicated to reducing the losses from motor vehicle crashes, such as deaths, injuries, and property damage.
