2023 BMW 2 Series vs. 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman

Few cars can compare with the luxury and performance of a 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman, but the new 2023 BMW 2 Series is up to the task. This is another duel of the German giant carmakers and if you find it difficult to choose between them then you should keep reading. You’ll find out what makes each of these cars so attractive and why the BMW might have the upper hand when it comes to comfort and luxury.

Design & Style

First of all, the BMW comes with a larger wheelbase in comparison with the previous model and this means more space for you and your passengers. You also get a large 12.3-inch display that shows a plethora of information such as your current speed, remaining fuel, and so on. When it comes to comfort and luxury, you’ll be surrounded by a blend of textured leather and other premium materials.

The Porsche also scores big marks when it comes to interior design and comfort. It features a lot of premium materials, but at a closer look, you’ll also notice some cheap plastic elements. This might not seem like much at first, but plastic components can deteriorate faster than premium materials.

Technology & Safety

In the technology department, the BMW surprises you with a large 8.8-inch display and a central rotary button that allows you to easily adjust the settings of the car. You get smartphone connectivity, a premium sound system and many safety features such as emergency braking and lane departure warning.

The Porsche comes with a smaller display and for some safety features you have to pay extra. Still, you get a superb surround sound system and Apple CarPlay, but no Android Auto. If you have an Android phone, you might not be able to connect it to your Porsche.

Performance

The BMW 2 Series is powered by a powerful turbocharged engine that makes up to 255 horsepower and a wonderful sound. This is for the standard version and the engine is coupled to an automatic transmission, so no need to change gears manually.

The Porsche is slightly more powerful as it has 300 horsepower extracted from a 2.0 turbocharged engine. This will give you faster acceleration and higher top speed, but the sound this car makes is slightly coarse and not appealing to everyone’s ears.

The Bottom Line

If you go by the looks only, you might be tempted to go for the Porsche. However, remember that the BMW 2 Series also comes with a plethora of useful features, safety systems, and connectivity options, so you simply cannot ignore all these and move on.
