2022 BMW X4 vs 2022 Porsche Macan

The 2022 BMW X4 is a smaller SUV that’s perfect for those who want more urban style and less space than the X5. The 2022 Porsche Macan, on the other hand, is a compact luxury crossover with enough room for you to bring along your family but it still feels sporty and fun to drive.

Design & Style

  • Exterior Design

The 2022 BMW X4 is a solid-looking car. It has excellent shape and proportion but is also quite bold and masculine. The overall design is one of the best in its class, although some aspects could use improvement.

The 2022 Porsche Macan, on the other hand, doesn’t look as good as you’d expect from Porsche. We think this is due to its less than impressive proportions and uninspired details such as fog lamps or door mirrors (the latter being especially bad).

  • Interior Design

The 2022 BMW X4 and 2022 Porsche Macan are both solid choices. But if you’re looking for a more luxurious interior, the 2022 X4 is the way to go. The seats are supple and comfortable, as is the steering wheel. The dashboard features all kinds of tech that will make your life easier when driving on long journeys–the same goes for the infotainment system in general.

The 2022 Macan is quite similar to its German rival in terms of comfort and design, but it doesn’t go nearly as far with its interior upgrades. The seats feel a little stiffer than they should be (especially compared to those found on other BMW models), and while some people might like this because it provides better support during high-speed driving, others may not like having such firm seats against their backsides for hours at a time!

Technology & Safety

In terms of technology and safety, the two vehicles stand on similar ground. Both come with a standard rearview camera and a rear parking aid, as well as automatic headlights. However, if you’re looking for more advanced features like lane keeping assist or blind spot detection, you will have to upgrade to the next model in each brand’s lineup. Additionally, while both offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility out of the box (the BMW also gets Amazon Alexa integration), neither offers wireless charging capabilities.

The Porsche Macan has received top scores in IIHS testing on all fronts—the X4 came home with an overall rating of “Good” but had some trouble with its front crash prevention system.

The 2022 BMW X4 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-six engine that produces 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission that can shift at speeds as fast as 1,000 RPM. The 2022 Porsche Macan, on the other hand, has a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produces 260 hp and 280 lb.-ft., which is then coupled with a nine-speed automatic transaxle.

The 2022 BMW X4 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds while its top speed is 155 mph or 250 km/h (electronically limited). The 2022 Porsche Macan improves on these numbers slightly by accelerating from 0–60 mph in 4.6 seconds, with its electronically limited top speed set at 174 mph (280 km/h).

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a luxury crossover that offers the fuel economy of a small car but will still carry your family and their gear with ease, the 2022 BMW X4 is an excellent option. Despite being larger than its predecessor, it has similar fuel economy and is much more fun to drive.
