2022 BMW X1 vs. 2022 Lexus RX 350

Finding the right compact SUV is not the easiest job in the world because there are so many great contenders out there. One of them is the mighty 2022 BMW X1 and the other is a comfortable model from Lexus – the 2022 RX 350. Although these might seem similar on paper, there are important differences you need to know about before buying one.

Design & Style

At first glance, you might be impressed by the sporty and luxurious looks of the X1. This model offers plenty of space for 5 people, incorporates premium materials, and also has carpeted cargo. You might appreciate the stylish instrument cluster that allows you to easily see how fast you’re going and what gear you’re in.

On the other hand, the Lexus also comes with a beautiful interior that offers textured upholstery and other premium materials. However, some of the controls are quite far away from the driver, so you might find it difficult to reach them.

Technology & Safety

When it comes to technology, the BMW always has the upper hand. It comes with a spacious 8.8-inch display that allows you to access the navigation system, connect your phone, or adjust other vehicle settings. It also features Apple CarPlay and it comes with a superb audio system.

The Lexus RX 350 also offers a decent sound system and smartphone connectivity, but it has a slightly smaller display at just 8-inch. Although this infotainment panel is sufficient for some, it is not as sophisticated and intuitive as the one found in the BMW. Also, some safety features and driver-assist systems are charged extra for the Lexus, so you need to keep this in mind before buying.

Performance

You might be happy to find out that the BMW comes with a powerful 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces up to 228 horsepower. This allows you to quickly overtake someone on the highway. The engine is also connected to an automated gearbox, so you’ll enjoy swift gear changes that reduce travel time and improve fuel efficiency.

The Lexus comes with two powertrains – a 3.5-liter V6 engine and a hybrid system designed to improve mileage. Although this might sound good on paper, you have to pay more for the hybrid version and the standard 3.5-liter engine doesn’t accelerate as quickly as you should expect.

The Bottom Line

If you prefer aggressive lines and a sporty SUV, you might feel tempted to go for the Lexus. Although this is a good idea, keep in mind that the standard version is also much more expensive than the standard BMW X1. It’s up to you if you go for German engineering or Japanese engineering.
