The 2021 BMW X7 is a highly regarded sport utility vehicle, and for good reason. Its spacious and quiet interior, soothing seats and state of the art safety makes it ideal for families. But how does it compare to the 2021 Genesis GV80, an SUV which has received praise for its handsome appearance and exceptional handling?
Design & Style
The Genesis GV80 is a five seat, moderately sized crossover that marks Hyundai’s entry into the luxury segment. It has smooth and elegant curves with powered seats in the cabin that can be adjusted twelve different ways. Buyers get the option of two powertrains with three trims and the large crest grille in front looks fabulous. It also has quad style LED lights and within the cabin passengers will be treated to comfortable seats and a massive 15 inch touch display.
The BMW X7 is a three row SUV that can seat a maximum of seven passengers in absolute comfort. The outer curvature is sleek with rounded edges and a dual kidney grille that can be seen in front. Passengers within the cabin will be presented with metallic trim and natural wooden surfaces with seats that are covered in supple and great looking black leather upholstery.
Technology & Safety
The BMW X7 is well designed to prevent collisions before they occur. It accomplishes this through automated emergency brakes, adaptive LED style headlights, blind area monitoring, lane control, parking sensors and cruise control. Amenities within its cabin include a camera with surround view, heated/cooled seats, panoramic sunroof, 12 inch touch displays, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and heated armrests and steering.
The Genesis GV80 is equipped with most of the features found in the BMW. It can detect cyclists and pedestrians automatically and has daytime lights as well as parking sensors and emergency brakes for the rear. Amenities within its cabin include a camera with surround view, climate control, powered seats that can be heated or cooled and premium audio.
Performance
Those that purchase the Genesis GV80 with a dual turbo V6 will be able to generate 375 horsepower with 391 pounds of torque that is wedded to an automatic eight speed tranmission. Those that choose the BMW X7 Alpina will get a V8, dual turbo 4.4 liter engine that can generate 612 horsepower with 590 pounds of torque, enabling it to accelerate from zero to sixty in just four seconds. This makes it one of the fastest SUVs in the world.
The Bottom Line
While the Genesis is a decent vehicle, it isn’t in the same league as BMW. The GV80 has a confusing dial console, its lane control is clunky and the BMW X7 completely slaughters it with regard to performance.
