The 2021 BMW X7 is the brand’s premiere SUV. Its sporty and iconic appearance, supreme comfort and incredible power make it desired by many. But how does it compare to the 2021 Ford Expedition, one of America’s most popular SUVs due to its spacious interior, advanced tech and potent performance?
Design & Style
The Ford Expedition is a large and intimidating sport utility vehicle with an extended wheelbase and the ability to seat more than a half dozen people. It comes in four trim levels, which are Platinum, King Ranch, XLT and Limited. The exterior is mostly boxy with few curves, and the grille in front is banded by chrome with a centralized blue oval. It sits on eighteen inch wheels and the doors are large and thick, and passengers within the cabin will presented with controls that are chunky, wooden trim and cloth covered seats that can be upgraded to leather.
The BMW X7 offers three row seating and the cabin is covered in a perfect mixture of metallic and wooden trim with dark supple leather. It has an extended nose and the hood has been widened with a kidney grille that is ribbed. Standardized rails can be seen on the roof and the rocker panels come in black or chrome. The twenty one inch wheels are very pleasing to the eyes.
Technology & Safety
The BMW X7 is well equipped with the latest safety technology, which includes blind area monitoring, parking sensors, high beams which are automated, a camera with surround view, lane and cruise control and automated emergency brakes. Luxuries within its cabin include twelve inch touch displays, seats which are powered, heated and capable of giving massages, panoramic sunroof and climate control.
The Ford Expedition has received a perfect 5 star safety score from federal testers. It is equipped with many of the countermeasures found in the BMW X7, including cruise and lane control, parking sensors and automated emergency brakes. Luxuries within its cabin include dampers which are adaptive, climate control, powered seats, premium audio, keyless start, wifi, eight inch displays and the choice of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
Those that purchase the Ford Expedition Platinum will get a V6, 3.5 liter engine that is dual turbocharged and capable of generating 400 horsepower with 480 pounds of torque. Those that purchase the BMW X7 Alpina will get a V8, dual turbocharged engine that is 4.4 liter and capable of generating 612 horsepower with 590 pounds of torque.
The Bottom Line
While both these sport utility vehicles are well designed and packed with the same safety features, the BMW X7 has larger touchscreens and vastly superior performance, making it the winner.
