2021 BMW X2 vs. 2021 Mini Cooper Countryman

As far as stylish looks and great handling is concerned, the 2021 BMW X2 sits at the very top of the niche. The plush cabin as well as a generous trunk space all add to the utility value of the car. Handling is superb and everything is intuitively placed within reach on the instrument panel. The 2021 BMW X2 is an excellent example of German engineering at its best.

The 2021 Mini Cooper Countryman is essentially a bigger version of the famous Mini Cooper. The increase in body size however has an effect on handling, especially at high speeds. Here is a comparison between these two cars.

Design & Style

For 2021, BMW has gone ahead and redesigned the front end of the car. The 2021 BMW X2 features a new grille as well as wheel designs. The sporty look and aggressive stance are still there. Inside the car, the cabin is as spacious as ever. The instrument panel is designed to ensure that you have all controls within your reach without cluttering the panel.

The 2021 Mini Cooper Countryman is simple an enlarged version of the Mini Cooper. This means that the design is great although nothing about it is likely to sweep you off your feet. The cabin is plush and comfortable, complete with LED lighting. All said, the Countryman is well designed and offers a spacious trunk space.

Technology & Safety

With an 8.8-inch infotainment display and many other tech features, the 2021 X2 will excite any true car enthusiast. The infotainment system uses BMW’s iDrive software which ensures that the system has zero lag and the graphics are outstanding. The base model comes with an 8-speaker audio system which we found quite sufficient. However, the option to upgrade the audio system exists.

The 2021 Countryman also comes with a host of tech and safety features. The infotainment display is smaller than that of the 2021 X2, coming in at just 6.5-inches. One can upgrade to something similar to the 2021 X2’s system but it will cost more.

Performance

For 2021, BMW X2 combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with an automatic 8-speed transmission system. The result is a superbly-powered car that also handles well. BMW is good at making sporty cars that handle well and the 2021 X2 is a prime example of that ability.

When it comes to performance and handling, the 2021 Countryman struggles. Having enlarged the body, Mini Cooper then placed a three-cylinder engine in the car, grossly under-powering the Countryman. Acceleration is sluggish and the handling is terrible. Higher trims have better engines again, which means paying more.

The Bottom Line

The 2021 BMW X2 and the 2021 Mini Cooper Countryman may be in the same niche but they are not competing. In a segment that is known for sporty performance, the 2021 Countryman is miles behind the 2021 BMW X2. This is why the BMW easily wins this comparison.
