As far as high-performance cars go, the BMW M5 is at the top of this category thanks to its incredible build and performance. BMW has given the 2021 model of the M5 an all-wheel system which enhances its grip on the road and makes it possible to drive it at high speed on the track. To go with the all-wheel system, the 2021 M5 also gets an advanced traction control system that is specially tuned to work with the 2021 BMW M5.
On the other hand, with the 2021 Porsche Panamera Turbo, buyers can expect to get an exceptional sports car that comes with a host of tech features. The only downside to the 2021 Panamera Turbo is that it suffers from low build quality that one would not expect to find in a car of this pedigree. Here is how the two sports cars stack against each other.
Design & Style
The 2021 model of the BMW M5 comes with various new features such as restyled headlights as well as brighter interior lighting (LED-based). With comfortable sports seats and a steering wheel that is specially designed to enhance the driver’s grip, this is a sports sedan that looks and feels sporty. When it comes to the 2021 Panamera Turbo, you similarly get a well-styled sports sedan with a spacious cabin and a generous luggage area situated underneath the sloping roofline. Although the Panamera Turbo is great looking, the base model is rather spartan and the luxury features that are common in sports cars far below the Panamera Turbo’s price point, are missing here.
Technology & Safety
Standard in the 2021 BMW M5 is a 12.5-inch infotainment display that controls a very intuitive infotainment system. The system runs on BMW’s iDrive software and allows for voice commands. Given the sporting heritage of the M5, BMW thoughtfully places the infotainment display and angled it towards the driver to make it easier to operate. Smartphone integration is one of the other options that come standard in the M5. The Porsche Panamera Turbo features a 12-inch infotainment display which sadly, is confusing and difficult to use. The software that runs it is not as responsive as one would expect in a Porsche. The Panamera Turbo similarly has no smartphone integration as standard and buyers looking for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto must pay extra to get them. This is odd in a car that is already quite expensive.
The 2021 BMW M5 comes with a 4.0 turbocharged V8 engine that delivers incredible power to the BMW M5. This massive engine moves the M5 from naught to sixty in a staggering three seconds. This is super-car territory and considering that this is a four-door sedan that can still do school or shopping runs, is mind-blowing. Driving on the racing track is equally impressive in this incredible vehicle. The 2021 M5 delivers a composed ride and handles beautifully. With the 2021 Porsche Panamera Turbo, one gets an equally impressive engine in the form of a 4-liter turbocharged V8. Just as in the BMW, the Panamera Turbo has incredible power and speed. Handling is not as refined as in the 2021 M5 though and the ride quality is not what you would expect in a Porsche model.
The Bottom Line
Both the 2021 BMW M5 and the 2021 Porsche Panamera Turbo are designed primarily to deliver a thrilling ride. They achieve this, thanks to their powerful engines and sporty dynamics. The M5 however edges out the Panamera Turbo when it comes to ride quality as well as the quality of tech. This makes the 2021 BMW M5 the winner in this comparison.
