2021 BMW 8-Series vs. 2021 Lamborghini Aventador

The 2021 BMW 8-Series is a stylish Gran Coupe with incredible M8 power, exceptional handling, and supreme comfort. But how does it stack up against the 2021 Lamborghini Aventador, a vociferous supercar that is fabulously expensive and powered by a V12 engine?

Design & Style

The Lamborghini Aventador can be purchased in the form of a convertible or coupe. It has considerable girth but the powerful engine makes its nimble nonetheless. The exterior is marked by sword sharp edges and those that buy the S edition can get Leirion wheels which have been forged, along with the Arancio Dac central wheel lock. As with many previous models, the Aventador comes with scissor doors which swing open. The interior is low slung and can be personalized with a variety of upscale materials.

The BMW 8-Series does an outstanding job of pampering its passengers. Like the Aventador, its exterior is marked by sharpened edges in most places, and in the cabin the seats are made with plush and lovely materials. The cockpit is masterfully designed, with an infotainment system and screen that is a joy to use.

Technology & Safety

The BMW 8-Series comes with all the newest safety gear. This includes pedestrian detection, LED headlights which are adaptive, emergency automated brakes, multiple airbags, and notifications when departing lanes. Those that purchase driver assistance will be able to get out of traffic jams with ease, and it also has brief autonomous operation. Luxuries within its cabin include powered seats that can be heated, cooled and adjusted multiple ways, climate control and premium audio.

Unlike Ferrari, which has begun adding driver assistance to some of their vehicles, Lamborghini still hasn’t gotten with the times. Other than carbon ceramic brakes, it provides little protection, which is ridiculous given its mid six figure price tag. Its infotainment system is dated, with integration that is awkward and graphics which are aging. It does have Apple CarPlay and voice command, along with a revised audio system that includes subwoofers that are door mounted and a system which can record track and performance data.

Performance

The Lamborghini Aventador is powered by a V12, 6.5 liter engine that can generate 730 horsepower with 509 pounds of torque. It is connected to a 7 speed automatic or manual transmission. It can accelerate from zero to sixty in about 2.8 seconds, with a 217 mph top speed. Those that purchase the BMW M8 Competition will get a V8, 617 horsepower engine that can accelerate from zero to sixty in 3 seconds, with a 189 mph top speed.

The Bottom Line

While the Lamborghini Aventador is a good looking vehicle, it has too many shortcomings. It only holds two passengers, its infotainment is dated, and driver assistance is non-existent. The BMW 8-Series seats four passengers, has equal 0 to 60 acceleration times and comes with driver assistance and the latest infotainment, making it the winner.
