The 2021 BMW 7-Series is an extravagant automobile with formidable engines, state of the art tech and an unforgettable riding experience. But how does it stack up against the 2021 Ferrari F8, an exotic super car with an exquisite appearance and earth shattering speed?
Design & Style
The Ferrari F8 comes in two variants, which are the Spider and Tributo. Both display fantastic bodywork and the Spider has a top which can be removed. Both models come with one trim which offers lots of amenities, including exhaust pipes made from titanium and cabin materials which are covered in carbon fiber. Even the brake calipers can be purchased in distinct colors. The interior is spacious with contrast stitching, but the coupe’s rearward visibility is limited due to the back window’s louvers. Those that purchase the coupe will get just 7 cubic feet for cargo space.
The BMW 7-Series is a large sedan with one wheelbase and plenty of space. It can seat up to four passengers comfortably and a prominent kidney style grille can be seen in front. The cabin is plush with soothing leather seats, rich infotainment and an instrument cluster which is digitized. The seats are power adjusted and it provides up to eighteen cubic feet for cargo.
Technology & Safety
The BMW 7-Series is loaded with the industry’s best countermeasures. These include automated emergency brakes, multiple airbags, cross traffic notifications, and lane with cruise control. It also comes with driver assistance that can help the vehicle get out of traffic jams, and luxuries within its cabin include heated/cooled seats, climate control and Apple CarPlay.
The Ferrari F8 is completely devoid of driver assistance, despite its extremely high price tag. Like other supercars, it sacrifices everything for performance, including safety. Its main safety features include parking sensors and a standardized backup camera, but that’s about it. Luxuries within its cabin include Bluetooth, seven inch touch displays, Apple CarPlay, voice activation, and streaming audio.
Performance
This is what Ferrari is best known for, and the F8 excels. It is equipped with a V8, 3.9 liter engine that can generate 710 horsepower with 568 pounds of torque. Each model comes with rear wheel drive along with an automatic seven speed transmission, and can accelerate from zero to sixty in 2.8 seconds. Those that purchase the BMW 760i will get all wheel drive with a V12, dual turbo engine that can generate 601 horsepower, enabling it to accelerate from zero to sixty in 3.6 seconds
The Bottom Line
The Ferrari F8 is a one trick pony. Though it has fantastic acceleration and speed, this comes at the cost of very little cargo space, compromised rear visibility, no driver assistance and it can only seat two. The BMW 7-Series has more passenger and cargo space, better safety features and nearly the same acceleration, making it the winner.
