2021 BMW 6-Series vs. 2021 Tesla Model S

With a ride quality that is highly refined and performance that is outstanding, the 2021 BMW 6-Series is an outstanding luxury coupe in almost every way. It features a roomy cabin and generous trunk space making it a practical everyday car. However, take it to a race track and its pedigree as a sports car becomes evident.

The 2021 Tesla Model S is a pathbreaking, all-electric sedan with outstanding features. For 2021, the Model S remains largely unchanged with only a few touch-ups made. For example, the car has a slightly re-designed dashboard and its range has also slightly increased.

Design & Style

The 2021 BMW 6-Series has not changed much from its 2020 predecessor. Notable changes however include a refreshed front grille and bumper. The 2021 6-Series is roomy as noted earlier and despite the sloping roofline, still has ample space at the rear seat. We were able to fit a number of suitcases in the trunk, a testimony of the 2021 6-Series’ clever design.

When it comes to the interior of the 2021 Tela Model S, the designers went with a minimalist design, perhaps a nod to the car’s futuristic pedigree. While not unattractive, the interior cannot be described as luxurious either. This is a problem because the 2021 Model S is pricey and thus competes in a category where buyers expect luxury features.

Technology & Safety

The lowest trim of the 2021 BMW 6-Series features an impressive array of tech that is only comparable with higher trims in other models. For example, the BMW sedan comes with a Bang & Olufsen audio system that is typically an option elsewhere. The infotainment system is powered by BMW’s brilliant iDrive software, making it highly responsive.

Most of the controls on the 2021 Model S are controlled via a giant tablet-like screen that sits in the middle of the dashboard. This adds to the futuristic appeal of the 2021 Model S but can be very difficult to operate.

Performance

When it comes to what is under the hood, buyers of the 2021 BMW 6-Series can expect a powerful V6 engine that delivers outstanding performance. Those who need even more power can opt for the V8 variant whose engine performance can only be described as explosive. Still, the 2021 6-Series is composed and delivers a quiet, comfortable ride during everyday driving.

The 2021 Model S features an all-electric engine that moves the Model S from naught to sixty in a blistering 2.4 seconds. Handling is a little unrefined and the car is a little wobbly around corners. The biggest disadvantage of the 2021 Model S is that it still feels very experimental. Unlike the time tested 6-Series, the Tesla Model S feels like work-in-progress, which is exactly what it is.

The Bottom Line

When comparing the 2021 BMW 6-Series and the 2021 Tesla Model S, it is clear why the BMW is the better car. The basic trim of the Model S starts at close to $90,000 and has nothing comparable to the 2021 BMW 6-Series. From luxury features, ride quality, and styling, the 2021 BMW 6-Series is better in every way, delivering great value to the owner.
