2021 BMW 3-Series vs. 2021 Genesis G70

The 2021 Genesis G70 has rapidly made a name for itself in the compact luxury car segment. Its refined appearance, serene cabin and sports level performance has captured the attention of many. But is all this enough to beat the 2021 BMW 3-Series, a car which is coveted for its dynamic engines, superb handling, and the best vehicular tech that money can buy?

Design & Style

The BMW 3-Series is compact with a three box design and conservative styling. Passengers within the cabin will be presented with a dashboard that has been lowered and augmented with digital displays. The surfaces are covered in lovely materials such as polished aluminum and authentic wooden trim with ambient lights that provide pleasant illumination.

The Genesis G70 is smooth and sophisticated. Robust fenders can be seen in front, with a nose that descends downward. The air intakes are attractive and prominent as is the statement lighting. Passengers within the cabin will be treated to metallic trim and quilted leather upholstery that softens the dash. The seats are comfortable to sit in and will remain so even during long trips.

Technology & Safety

While the IIHS considers the Genesis G70 very safe, so much so that it was awarded the prestigious Top Safety Pick award, its base headlights were still rated poorly. That being said, the G70 is still equipped with all the modern protective features that drivers expect, including blind area monitoring, high beam automated lights, cruise control which is adaptive, lane control and emergency automatic brakes. Luxuries within the cabin include a camera with surround view, eight inch displays, the choice of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay and heated/cooled seats.

The BMW 3-Series has also earned the Top Safety Pick award. It comes with all of the safety functions found in the G70, including cruise control and the ability to alleviate driver fatigue by operating autonomously for a limited time. Luxuries within its cabin include carbon fiber style seats that can be heated or cooled, matte paint, climate control, premium audio, and smartphone compatibility.

Performance

Those that purchase the BMW M3 Competition will get a dual turbo 6 engine that can generate 503 horsepower, enabling it to accelerate from zero to sixty in just 3.8 seconds with a maximum 180 mph top speed. Those that purchase the Genesis G70 can get a dual turbo V6 engine that is 3.3 liter and capable of generating 365 horsepower, which enables it to blaze from zero to sixty in about 4.5 seconds.

The Bottom Line

As well designed as the Genesis is, it still isn’t enough to beat the BMW 3-Series. The G70 has poor headlights, a cramped rear seat, inadequate cargo space, and its performance is nowhere near BMW, making the 3-Series the winner.
