2020 BMW M5 vs. 2021 Porsche 911

Boasting an excellent engine and a new four-wheel drive system, the 2020 BMW M5 is an excellent car to drive away in. The 2021 Porsche 911 brings retro and modern elements into its design, creating a stunning car. Here is a comparison between both cars.

Design & Style

Space isn’t sacrificed when it comes to the 2020 BMW M5. Providing sufficient boot space and legroom for passengers is great, which is hardly the case for cars with similar engine performances. The bolstered sport seats and cushioned armrest proves to be excellent for long drives. The intuitive adjustments for the steering wheel and seat allows for a more comfortable ride. The leather trimmings along the edges of the dashboard exudes a professional, yet sporty look.

The 2021 Porsche 911 is an absolutely stunning car, with much curves around its edges. The horizontal dashboard and control panel is simplistic, which is an improvement from its predecessors. While the seats might be narrow, it offers plenty of support and has many adjustments to make it comfortable, even for long drives. While the speedo and rev counter is easy to see, other gauges are blocked by the steering wheel.

Technology & Safety

The 2020 BMW M5 is gifted with BMW’s excellent iDrive infotainment system. It is an excellent companion to this awesome vehicle, providing satellite navigation, Apple Carplay and Spotify services. The infotainment system is also loaded with tons of high-tech features as well. Some exciting ones include BMW’s personal assistant and gestures controls, that has made the interface easier to use especially when on the move. In terms of its additional safety features, the M5 has electronic Stability Control, BMW Assist and blind spot detectors in place.

Porsche has a reputation of not adding essential features into their infotainment system, but the 2020 Porsche 911 comes with most of them! It comes with an excellent satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay, DAB radio and a decent eight-speaker stereo. These are controlled using a crisp 10.9-inch touchscreen. We do admit that it is rather difficult to use the system while on the move and it isn’t as intuitive as compared to BMW’s iDrive system.

Performance

The base eight-cylinder 4.4-liter turbocharged engine in the 2020 BMW M5 can produce up to a mighty 600-horsepower. As compared to the 2021 Porsche 911, its six-cylinder 3.0-litre turbocharged engine can produce up to an excellent 443-horsepower. The 911 isn’t a great choice for driving lost-distance though. The wide tires and frameless side windows can produce quite a bit of sound when on the road as compared to the M5.

The Bottom Line

The 2021 Porsche 911 is beloved for its stunning blend of modern and retro elements into its design. From this comparison, however, it is obvious that the 911 pales in comparison to the 2020 BMW M5 for a multitude of reasons – better engine, design and infotainment system. The 2020 BMW M5 is just that much better!
