You do not come across sedans that uncork 600 plus horsepower every day. But the new 2020 BMW M5 does! That alone, makes it an exception to the rule. It gets even better with the Beamer’s twin turbo V8 engine. You know for sure you have a beast for a ride.
Then there is the 2021 Jeep Compass – a worthy competitor is so many ways. Apart from its exterior appeal though, the Jeep doesn’t have much to offer. One has to appreciate its agility though as well as its slew of tech and safety features.
Design & Style
2020 BMW M5 boasts of an elegant leather interior just like it is the case with its brothers in the M family. The interior, with supportive and supple seats guarantee both class and comfort. It does not end there though. BMW’s commitment to driver comfort saw the M2 come off the production line complete with the drivers seating position fully optimized for performance style driving. The auto giant decided not to go the all touchscreen route like its rivals. This means 0 distractions when executing basic functions like adjusting the radio or the A/C. Other notable features include ventilated front seats complete with massage functions, four zone automatic climate control and heated rear seats.
2021 Jeep Compass may look appealing from the outside. The interior is a different story though. The materials used are somewhat acceptable for not entirely upscale. 2021 Jeep Compass is also not spacious despite its boxy exterior.
Technology & Safety
BMW never fails to impress when it comes to technology and safety, solely due to the company’s commitment to innovation. 2020 BMW M5 lives up to expectations in that regard. Like its siblings in the M family, 2020 M5 features an infotainment display ran by BMW’s most recent iDrive Software. Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay integration are guaranteed. For entertainment, the M5 comes along with 16 speaker 600 watt Harman/Kardon audio system as well as wireless charging. Safety features include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and forward collision warning.
For the 2021 Jeep Compass, there really isn’t much to expect other than Jeeps uConnect system for entertainment. Bluetooth connectivity and Wi-Fir hotspot are guaranteed. It is also worth mentioning that the uConnect system is not user-friendly. Safety features include automated emergency braking and forward collision warning.
2020 BMW M5 launches to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds. This may sound astonishing at first. Looking at the engine specs though, one understands how and why the beast is agile and fast. First off, the engine is a twin turbo 4.4 liter V8 engine. It uncorks 600 horsepower. It also unleashes 553 lb ft torque. All these guarantee a thrilling driving experience. The experience is made even better with M5’s lively, direct steering and a well-controlled borderline stiff ride as well as a cornering grip you can only describe as heroic.
The Bottom Line
2020 BMW M5 stands out for many reasons. The most important reason though has got to be its safety closely followed by performance. Elegance and comfort are guaranteed perks. The same cannot be said of the M5’s competitor the 2021 Jeep Compass, leaving the M5 as the outright winner.
