BMW models are getting more and more powerful by the day. It is highly unlikely its quest for powerful beasts will end anytime soon. It does not end at just power. BMW has made a deliberate move to invest heavily in the all-wheel drive technology. Take the 2020 BMW M5 for instance. It boasts of a 4.4 liter twin turbo V8 engine capable of producing 553 lb ft torque and 617 horsepower. It also features an eight speed automatic gear box designed to make shifting easy while output gets distributed to all the four wheels. Its switchable all-wheel drive system will allow you to send 100% power to all the rear wheels allowing you to immerse yourself in some sideways action if necessary.
Then there is the new 2020 Hummer H4 which has been touted by many as the only model that can give the BMW M5 a run for its money. That’s right only that the H4 falls short in some key aspects such as the aforementioned switchable all-wheel drive system. The H4 is also a guzzler with what seems like a weak engine compared to what the M5 has to offer.
Design & Style
The new 2020 BMW M5 features an elegant leather interior complete with supportive and supple sport seats. You’ll quickly notice the driver’s seating position is deliberately optimized to guarantee performance style driving. Everything is within reach so there is no distraction at all in case you need to adjust anything as you drive. You will also love customizable ambient interior lighting, heated front seats, power adjustable steering wheel and ventilated front seat complete with massage functions.
2020 Hummer H4 does not measure up to M5’s design and style for pretty obvious reasons. The driver’s position is not well optimized meaning you may get distracted trying to reach out on something as you drive. Space is also an issue with the beamer’s trunk fitting up to six carry-on suitcases on the trunk compared to H4’s four. Aesthetically speaking, the Beamer takes the medal for both interior and exterior designs.
Technology & Safety
The M5 comes along with a slew of technology and safety features you will love. You will easily notice M5’s infotainment display designed to run the M5’s latest iDrive software strategically positioned at the top end of the dashboard to the driver’s right hand side for easy access. Wireless charging for your devices, two USB ports and Bluetooth connectivity are also guaranteed. Safety wise, the M5 comes along with forward collision warning, automated emergency braking system, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.
Hummer H4 is not that bad when it comes to technology and safety. You can’t help but notice though that the M5 is miles ahead. The H4 guarantees standard technology and safety features like Bluetooth connectivity and Wi-Fi hotspot. Expect nothing extraordinary. The same can be said of its safety features which boast of the usual automated emergency braking system as the main highlight.
The M5 is super quick. That should not come as surprise when one takes into account the aforementioned engine specs. It launches to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds! Its high tech drivetrain easily sends maximum power to rear wheels within seconds. Its grip on the road is better than all its predecessor’s. This is where it beats Hummer H2. It is a luxury model with off-road characteristics, so you exude power on the road all while remaining elegant. Note too that the M5 is fuel efficient, a perk that also gives it an edge over Hummer H4.
The Bottom Line
It is hard to come across a powerful engine that is whisper quiet and at the same time, fuel efficient. M5 defies that norm though, as Hummer H4 struggles. M5’s all-wheel drive system also makes it one of the most desirable BMW models in the market. It beats Hummer H4 hands down when it comes to speed, comfort, safety and overall performance.
