2020 BMW M5 Vs 2019 Lincoln Aviator

The 2020 BMW M5 is top of its class with great performance and unrivalled acceleration. Its powerful engine can yield over 600 horsepower! This alone, makes it one of the most powerful BMW models ever released. It gets better with its all-wheel drive system as well as its advanced 8 speed transmission.

Meanwhile, the 2019 Lincoln Aviator proclaims Lincoln’s return to the American luxury class. It boasts of an array of luxury features, advanced tech and a powerful engine setup. However, it offers more cargo space at the expense of the third row seats space.  Its engine performance is also underwhelming.

Design & Style

The 2020 BMW M5 has a classy cabin that is well designed and top quality. It is made up of premium materials and has supportive sport seats. The driver’s seat positioning is amazing and suited for performance style-driving. Standard luxury features on the M5 are ambient interior lighting, heated front seats, a power-adjustable steering column and a heated steering wheel. Ventilated front seat, heated rear seats, 4-zone automatic climate control and massaging front seats are some of the available upgrades. The M5 offers a generous amount of cargo space.

The 2020 Lincoln Aviator comes with either a six seat or a seven seat configuration. However the third row is quite cramped and is more suitable for children or short adults. On the brighter side, the cargo space it offers is more than its rivals offer. Available luxury features include power-adjustable seats with the massage function and a camera that detects potholes.

Technology & Safety

You will find the iDrive infotainment system on the 2020 BMW. It features a big display that is well positioned on the driver’s sightlines. The infotainment system can also be controlled using a rotary knob. A Wi-Fi hotspot, a 16-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system, wireless device charging and Apple CarPlay integration come standard on the M5. Fancier features such as rear-seat entertainment and the more superior Bowers & Wilkins sound system are also available. Standard safety features such as forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automated emergency braking and lane keep assist can be found on the M5. Adaptive cruise control is optional.

The Aviator comes with 2 screens. The larger 12.3-inch screen is for the digital instrument cluster while the smaller 10.1-inch touchscreen grants access to the infotainment system. It features satellite radio, Wi-Fi hotspot, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The system is also user-friendly. Upgrade options include starting and unlocking the car via Bluetooth and the impressive Revel Ultima 3D audio system with 28 speakers. Forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, automated emergency braking and lane keep assist are all standard on the Aviator. Available safety features include lane centering assist, automated paring assistance and adaptive cruise control.

Performance

The 2020 BMW M5 runs on an impressive twin-turbo 4.4 liter designed to yield 600 horsepower and 553 pounds per foot of torque. This means quick and smooth acceleration. This is likely to raise eye brows on safety as is often the case where speed is mentioned. The M5 has you covered with one of the most reliable braking systems. Keep in mind too that the M5 comes along with an automated emergency braking system as well as forward collision warning. It is also worth noting that the M5 clinches 15mpg in city driving and 21mpg on the highway.

The 2019 Lincoln Aviator’s base engine is a twin-turbo V-6 that yields 400 horsepower. It is paired with a 10 speed-automatic transmission to deliver swift acceleration. The V-6 engine may also be paired with a 100-hp electric motor in the hybrid model. These offer a combined horsepower of 494. However, the electric motor delivers slow acceleration. There are also noticeable thuds occasionally, when the gas engine is reengaged. The Aviator gets 24mpg on the highway.

The Bottom Line

The 2020 BMW M5 is truly a work of art. It is mighty quick with a powerful engine and smooth handling. It is also stylish and features plenty of advanced tech as well as safety features. That coupled with a superior infotainment system and high fuel efficiency ratings make it a masterpiece.
