The 2020 BMW 8-Series is a super-luxury coupé. With the use of strong and lightweight materials in its construction, the 8-Series is able to have good fuel-efficiency and not comprise on its safety standards. On the other hand, the 2020 Ford Mustang is a stunning coupé that packs a punch in engine performance.
Here is a comparison between both cars.
Design & Style
The 2020 BMW 8-Series has BMW’s signature driver-focused dashboard, providing comfortable reach to the controls. BMW has consistently focused on building quality in their interior and this is where the 8-Series shines. The dashboard is trimmed in upmarket leather and the edges are trimmed in chrome metal pieces, giving every surface a solid and expensive feel. With the multiple adjustments for the steering wheel and electrically operated driver’s seat, it provides much comfort for long drives.
Providing multiple adjustments for both the steering wheel and seat, those driving the 2020 Ford Mustang would have no trouble getting comfortable. Leather upholstery comes in standard in every Mustang. With the leather trimmings and plastic edges on the dashboard, it gives the car a rather old-fashioned style and feel. However, the controls on the Mustang isn’t great. The buttons and switches uses cheap plastic materials and can feel rather mushy when used.
Technology & Safety
BMW’s excellent infotainment system is shown on a 12.3-inch display and can be controlled using gesture controls, the conventional rotary dial or using the touch-sensitive screen. There’s an intelligent Personal Assistant installed as well. This can be used to do simple tasks and change certain controls within the car. In addition to the mandatory safety features in most cars, the 4-Series has a wide range of hi-tech safety systems in place. Traffic assistant, Lane departure warnings and cruise control are some examples of the additional safety features.
One of the most impressive parts of the 2020 Ford Mustang got to be the 12.0-inch display that’s in front of the steering wheel. The images on it are crisp and the format of the car gauges can be modified to fit your preference. While the infotainment system is fairly responsive, the design of the interface does not look great. Satellite navigation is optional and one has to pay extra for it on every model. Active Noise Cancellation technology, post-crash Alert system and the Personal Safety Systems are the additional safety features in place.
For a better comparison, we will compare the base versions of both models. With a standard four-cylinder, 2.3-litre engine, the 2020 Ford Mustang reaches a maximum output of 310 horsepower. The 2020 BMW 8-Series has a 8-cylinder, 4.4-litre turbocharged engine that produces a maximum output of 523 horsepower.
The Bottom Line
The 2020 Ford Mustang is an excellent car and offers many new features and design improvements from its predecessors. However, the car pales in comparison to the 2020 BMW 8-Series in many categories – better design, better infotainment system and better interior. The 2020 BMW 8-Series is just that much better.
