One of the most elegant four-door sedans in BMW’s lineup, the 2020 BMW 8-Series has lots to offer. It has more space, better engines, and more style than its competitors and its previous series. Meanwhile, the 2020 Audi R8 offers an high ride quality and is referred to a bargained version of a Lamborghini.
Design & Style
When you look at the 2020 BMW 8-Series, you start to admire its intricate styling with its muscular yet slender structure. The kidney grilles are in a hexagonal shape with LED headlights at the side. It is a five-seater and passengers can enter the back comfortably with ease. The four doors are also accompanied by pillarless windows for a coupe-like style.
The 2020 Audi R8 blends the Audi signature design with a supercar characteristic. It has a very unique design from its predecessors and the pair of honeycomb vents at the back further emphasizes the car’s width. Its interior is also classy, but is only spacious enough to fit two people, and taller people may have to bend their backs when going in and out of the car.
Technology & Safety
Fitted with the iDrive 7.0 infotainment system that is best in the industry, the 2020 BMW 8-Series offers a 10.25 inch touchscreen display that can also be controlled with your voice and hand gestures, Wi-Fi, a hard drive with 32GB memory, two USB ports, Bluetooth, HD radio, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. Collision warning, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, a drowsy driver monitoring system, stop and go cruise control are some of the car’s safety features.
Most functions of the car including the infotainment system is controlled by just the steering wheel, which has countless buttons on it. It has a 12.3 screen display that displays the driver’s information, navigation or infotainment along with Bluetooth, satellite radio, Apple CarPlay and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. Unfortunately, this car does not have blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control and other driver aids you find in other sports cars.
Performance
With a four-cylinder, twin-turbo V8 Gas, the 2020 BMW 8-Series reaches a maximum output of 523 horsepower and delivers smooth and strong power. In the case of the 5.2-liter VO engine for the 2020 Audi R8, it produces 562 horsepower and the transmission is always smooth.
The Bottom Line
The 2020 Audi R8 is a great car, especially with its engine performance. However, it is lacking the standard and advanced driver assist features, and the 2020 BMW 8-Series has the best technologies in its class. The 8-Series’s engine may lack in comparison to the engine of the Audi R8, but the BMW 8-Series’ safety, comfort, and technology make up for the small difference.
