Being the sportier version of the 5-Series, the 2020 BMW 6-Series is a stunning car to look at. With an excellent diesel engine, controls and fuel-efficiency, it is surely a joy to ride in the 6-Series. On the other hand, the 2020 Jaguar XF is one of the most exciting cars to drive and has some of the best engines in them.
Design & Style
The 2020 BMW 5-Series has BMW’s signature driver-focused dashboard, providing comfortable reach to the controls. The controls use physical buttons and has a nice, tactile feel to them. There are multiple adjustments for the steering wheel and seats, allowing you to have a much more comfortable ride. The addition of cushioned armrests has enhanced the comfort of any ride. The interior is also trimmed with upmarket material, giving the car an absolutely luxurious look.
It’s really comfortable to get into the 2020 Jaguar XF. With the multiple seat adjustments, supportive seats, the drive in the XF is really comfortable. The dashboard on the XF is also laid out in a practical manner and provides comfortable reach for the driver. There is no denying that the XF’s interior does feel slightly cheap. The use of plastic on the dashboard and door is a bit of a disappointment and surely doesn’t feel as solid as those used in the 6-Series
Technology & Safety
All 6-series models are equipped with satellite navigation, a 12 speaker hi-fi sound system, Bluetooth and other services. The iDrive infotainment system is excellent and is projected on a large 10.2-inch display. In addition to the mandatory safety features in most cars, the 4-Series has a wide range of hi-tech safety systems in place. Traffic assistant, Lane departure warnings and cruise control are some examples of the additional safety features. The 6-Series has also done marvelously well in crash test ratings.
The 2020 Jaguar XF offers a 10.0-inch infotainment display and many of the standard car services. While the infotainment system does the job, it can be unresponsive at times and can be difficult to use when on the move. It might be quite frustrating to use as the interface isn’t as intuitively laid out as BMW’s iDrive system. Lane Keep Assist, Driver Condition Monitor and Blind Spot Assist are some of the safety features in place.
Performance
For a better comparison, we will compare the base versions of both models. With a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre diesel engine, the 2020 Jaguar XF reaches a maximum output of 180 horsepower. The 2020 BMW 5-Series has a 6-cylinder, 3.0-litre turbocharged engine that produces a maximum output of 315 horsepower. The 6-Series is arguably the sweet spot in the line-up because of its balance of fuel-efficiency, engine performance and price.
The Bottom Line
The 2020 Jaguar XF is an excellent car and offers many new features and design improvements from its predecessors. However, the car pales in comparison to the 2020 BMW 6-Series in many categories – better design, a much more luxurious car and better infotainment system. The 2020 BMW 6-Series is just that much better.
