If there were to be an even larger and more comfortable version of the 3-Series, the 2020 BMW 5-Series would be it! The 5-Series has been a popular choice for drivers who are looking for luxurious car that packs a punch in performance as well. On the other hand, the 2020 Genesis G80 might not be the most fuel-efficient car but makes up for it in other ways.
Here is a comparison between both cars.
Design & Style
The 2020 BMW 5-Series has BMW’s signature driver-focused dashboard, providing comfortable reach to the controls. The controls use physical buttons and has a nice, tactile feel to them. There are multiple adjustments for the steering wheel and seats, allowing you to have a much more comfortable ride. The addition of cushioned armrests has enhanced the comfort of any ride. The interior is also trimmed with upmarket material, giving the car an absolutely luxurious look.
With the use of soft nappa leather for its seats and metal trimmings for its surfaces, the 2020 Genesis G80 is a truly luxurious car. The cabin is spacious and can accommodate 5 passengers with ease. The front seats of the car have heating functions and provides comfortable cushioning. The dashboard is relatively easy to use and the buttons have a nice, tactile response to them. However, its dashboard still pales in comparison to that of the 5-Series in terms of looks and practicality.
Technology & Safety
All 5-series models get satellite navigation, the 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a digital television and other services. The iDrive infotainment system is excellent and is projected on a large 10-inch display. In addition to the mandatory safety features in most cars, the 4-Series has a wide range of hi-tech safety systems in place. Traffic assistant, Lane departure warnings and cruise control are some examples of the additional safety features. The 5-Series has also done marvelously well in crash test ratings.
The 17-speaker sound system in the G80 is impressive and provides sufficient bass and treble on each track. The infotainment system is projected on an 8.0-inch display. While the infotainment interface is easy to use and responsive, it is disappointing that the display isn’t as crisp as most other displays. Forward collision warning with autonomous emergency brakes, pedestrian detection, cruise control and high-beam assist are some of the safety features in place
For a better comparison, we will compare the base versions of both models. With a six-cylinder, 3.8-litre engine, the 2020 Genesis G80 reaches a maximum output of 311 horsepower. The 2020 BMW 5-Series has a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that produces a maximum output of 248 horsepower. Both models offer a wide selection of engines to meet your preference and needs. The 5-Series is a lot more fuel-efficient as compared to the G80 due to its higher gas mileage.
The Bottom Line
The 2020 Genesis G80 is an excellent car and offers many new features and design improvements from its predecessors. However, the car pales in comparison to the 2020 BMW 5-Series in many categories – better dashboard, infotainment display and better fuel efficiency. The 2020 BMW 5-Series is just that much better.
