If there were to be a slicker coupé version of the 3-Series, the 2020 BMW 4-Series would be it! Despite being more compact to achieve this slicker look, the practicality and performance of the car has not been compromised. The 4-Series has an all-round appeal that many car makers have failed to replicate. On the other hand, the 2020 Lexus RC offers both a diesel and hybrid version of this coupé car. Here is a comparison between both cars!
Design & Style
The 2020 BMW 4-Series has BMW’s signature driver-focused dashboard, providing comfortable reach to the controls. There are multiple adjustments for the steering wheel and seats, allowing you to have a much more comfortable ride. It is a great option for family-conscious buyers as there is quite a lot of space in the rear seats and in the trunk. The materials used in the interior are premium and most of the components are well-put together.
We’ve come to expect high quality interiors when it comes to Lexus and the 2020 Lexus RC is no exception. Providing comfortable and supportive seats, it is easy to get yourself comfortable in this car. There are certain places within the car where the surfaces are trimmed with flimsy plastic – making it feel like you’re not getting what you’ve paid for. However, these places are within areas where you won’t access much.
Technology & Safety
All 4 series models get satellite navigation, radio, Bluetooth and a USB port. The iDrive infotainment system is excellent and is projected on a 6.5-inch color screen. In addition to the mandatory safety features in most cars, the 4-Series has a wide range of hi-tech safety systems in place. Active cruise control, reverse camera, lane-departure warning and speed-limit display are some examples of the additional safety features. The 4-Series has also done marvelously well in crash test ratings.
The 2020 Lexus RC comes with the Lexus infotainment system and is projected on a 10.3-inch screen that’s mounted on the center of the dashboard. It uses a laptop-style touchpad instead of the rotary controllers on BMW and Audi cars. While it provides haptic feedback when in use, it is rather difficult to use when driving. The system offers much of the conventional services such as radio, navigation and phone connectivity. Pre-collision systems, lane-departure alert, intelligent high beams are some of the safety features in place.
With a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, the 2020 Audi A5 reaches a maximum output of 241 horsepower. The 2020 BMW 4-Series has a 4-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that produces a maximum output of 248 horsepower. In addition to the better performing engine, the 4-Series is more fuel-efficient as well – having a gas mileage of 27 MPG as compared to the RC’s 24 MPG.
The Bottom Line
The 2020 Lexus RC is an excellent car and offers many new features and design improvements from its predecessors. However, the car pales in comparison to the 2020 BMW 4-Series in many categories – better dashboard, better performing engine and infotainment system. The 2020 BMW 4-Series is just that much better.
