The 2019 Lincoln Navigator is a commanding and regal SUV that is designed for drivers with big tastes and deep pockets. But how does it stand up to the 2019 BMW X6, a top shelf SUV that has formidable powertrains, eye catching looks, and a fabulous interior?
Design & Style
The BMW X6 is distinctive for its sloped roof and outstanding build quality. Although it is an SUV, visually it resembles a coupe, and is less utilitarian than its competitors. The rear fascia has been tightened, but can open as a liftback when needed. Within the cabin passengers can expect high end materials, with controls that are easy to access and use. The Lincoln Continental has lots of chrome and trim in all the right places, with surfaces that are glossy, giving it lots of panache. The cabin is large and inviting, with a gauge cluster that is 100 percent digitized.
Technology & Safety
The Lincoln Navigator has received excellent crash tests grades, with five stars from the NHTSA and the coveted Top Safety Pick IIHS award. It is superb when it comes to preventing crashes and protecting its passengers in the event a collision takes place. It has automatic emergency brakes, blind area monitoring, a camera with surround view, display that is heads up, park assist and Co Pilot 360. Within the interior, passengers will enjoy a sunroof with dual panels, seats that are cooled and heated, climate control, a sound system with 19 speakers and Alcantara headliner. The BMW X6 has also received a five star rating from the NHTSA, and is equipped with numerous airbags, control for traction and stability, emergency automatic brakes, blind area monitoring and lane departure notifications. In the interior passengers will be treated to ventilated seats, Apple CarPlay, leather seats, Harman Kardon sound, and climate control.
BMW is known for the magnificent performance of its vehicles, and the X6 is no exception. It can be equipped with either a V8 or inline 6, both of which provide superb performance. The V8, 4.4 liter, twin turbocharged engine is the best option, as it provides 445 horsepower with 480 pound of torque and can accelerate from zero to sixty in less than five seconds. The Lincoln Navigator comes with a V6, 3.5 liter, twin turbo engine that can produce 450 horsepower, that is wedded to a ten speed automatic transmission.
The Bottom Line
Both of these SUVs are spectacular, arguably the best on the market. But as impressive as the Lincoln Navigator is, it is too big and heavy, which limits its maneuverability greatly in comparison to the BMW, so the X6 wins.
