The 2019 Cadillac XT6 is an SUV coveted for its suspension tuning, all-wheel drive, relaxing seats and roomy interior. But how does it compare to the 2019 BMW X5, which has potent powertrains, a swanky interior, all terrain capabilities of its own and lots of space?
Design & Style
The BMW X5 has an impressive exterior, with lines along the sides that are prominent. LEDs are used for the taillights, and the front end has been aero tweaked with wheels made of high strength alloys. Inside, it has an outstanding cockpit where all the screens and buttons are grouped in a simple to use manner. The Cadillac XT6 uses vertical styled LEDs, with a toothy grille that is wide and three rows in the interior. Every surface in the cabin is covered by premium materials such as wood that is striped diagonally, with soft leather that feels soothing on the skin.
Technology & Safety
The Cadillac XT6 is packed with an array of safety tech, including emergency automatic brakes that come standard, the ability to detect nearby pedestrians, automated high beams, parking sensors for the back and front, and lane control. Within the cabin passengers will be treated to heated seats that can be power adjusted, keyless ignition, the ability to charge smartphones wirelessly and a Bose audio system with eight speakers and touchscreens eight inches in size. The IIHS has praised the BMW X5, giving it top grades. It has frontal impact warnings, emergency automatic brakes, blind area monitoring, tires that can continue running when flat, and lane control which is active. Passengers will be treated to seats with multiple contours that can be heated, automated climate control, keyless entry, a roof that is panoramic and climate control that is four zones.
The BMW X5 comes with a V8, 4.4 liter engine that is twin turbocharged and wedded to an eight speed automatic. It can produce an impressive 479 horsepower with the ability to go from zero to sixty in less than five seconds, reaching a top speed of 155 miles per hour. The Cadillac XT6 is equipped with a V6, 3.6 liter engine that is wedded to a nine speed automatic, and can produce 310 horsepower with 271 pounds of torque.
The Bottom Line
The Cadillac XT6 and BMW X5 are both very impressive SUVs, as they have many of the same safety features and interior perks. Despite this, the BMW completely surpasses the Cadillac when it comes to performance, and this combined with the inadequate space in the XT6’s third row makes the X5 the winner.
