The 2019 Buick Enclave is a classy, spacious, well balanced SUV that is testament to American design and ingenuity. But how does it compare to the 2019 BMW X5, an SUV which many consider the top of its class due to its posh interior, power trains and all terrain capabilities?
Design & Style
One of the best design features of the X5 is its cabin. The cockpit in particular is outstanding, with a good balance between high tech and ease of use. The leather is high in quality, the controls are tipped with crystal and it has the option of satin trim. The side profile is pronounced, with LED lights that are eye catching and a tailgate with two parts. The Buick Enclave has excellent proportion, especially in the exterior. A grille with slat styling can be seen in front, with chrome trim surrounding it and various accent pieces. The LED lights look sharp and modern, and even the door handles are perfectly aligned.
Technology & Safety
Although the Buick Enclave has advanced safety features, these are largely absent in the base model, meaning buyers must pay more for better protection. It has been given an overall five star rating however, and drivers can expect standard features such as airbags, cameras in key places and parking sensors and collision notifications. The BMW X5 received a Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS due to its wide range of features, including protection against rollovers, emergency automated brakes, blind area monitoring, tires that can run flat, lane control that is active, and multiple driver assist functions.
BMW is nicknamed the “ultimate driving machine” for a reason. The newest drive trains featured in the X5 are truly remarkable, and buyers will be treated to V8, 4.4 engines that can produce a mammoth 456 horsepower with 479 pounds of torque and an eight speed automatic transmission. The X5 can blaze from zero to sixty in 4.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 miles per hour. The Buick Enclave comes with a V6, 3.6 liter engine that can produce 310 horsepower with 266 pound of torque, with a nine speed automatic transmission that is as smooth as butter.
The Bottom Line
Both of these SUVs are visually attractive on the outside and inside, and come with a host of luxury features and upgrade options. However, the BMW X5 completely surpasses the Buick Enclave when it comes to performance. This is surprising given that the two vehicles are similar in price, but then again, BMW has always been known for superb performance, so the X5 is the winner.
