2019 BMW X2 vs. 2019 Ford Explorer

The 2019 BMW X2 is a swanky, upmarket vehicle designed for high society and anyone with lots of cash to spend. It is a blast to drive due to its outstanding powertrain and like other BMWs is equipped with a host of luxury features. But how does it stack up against the 2019 Ford Explorer, a vehicle which has become the mainstay of the SUV market due to its combination of affordability, roomy interior and excellent infotainment?

Design & Style

The Ford Explorer has been around for decades, but has aged like a bottle of vintage champagne. The latest incarnation has a clean exterior, devoid of the ruggedness seen in older versions. It has prominent alloy wheels which are now standard and looks best in lighter colors. Inside, this SUV has cloth upholstery and functional controls which have phased out the capacitive switches used in its predecessors. Visually, the BMW X2 is swoopier than the X1, with graceful curvature and a dual kidney grille in front. It looks best in black cladding, and within the cabin the layout is traditional with prominent touchscreen 6.5 inches in size that is centrally located on the dash.

Technology & Safety

The IIHS has provided the BMW X2 with top grades due to its numerous safety countermeasures, like frontal impact notifications, emergency automatic brakes, warning when departing lanes, and high beams which are automated. Inside, passengers can expect a host of perks, including Bluetooth support, a steering wheel wrapped in leather, seats that can be power adjusted, Apple CarPlay and a panoramic sun roof. The Ford Explorer comes with 7 airbags, the ability to pre-charge their brake if an impact is imminent and cruise control which is adaptive. Inside, passengers will be treated to touchscreens which are eight inches, Android Auto, and power folding for the third row.

Performance

The Ford Explorer comes with a V6, 3.5 liter engine that is capable of generating 290 horsepower with 255 pond of torque. The BMW X2 comes with a turbo 4, 2 liter engine that can generate 228 horsepower with 258 pound of torque, which is wedded to an eight speed automatic transmission.

The Bottom Line

Both of these SUVs are similar in price, size, and interior amenities. Be that as it may, the Ford Explorer has a number of strikes against it despite its engine power, most poignant of which is its safety. It also guzzles a tremendous amount of fuel, and this combined with its less classy interior and inadequate outward vision makes the BMW X2 the winner.
