The 2019 BMW 5-Series no longer carries a manual transmission engine, but it has added more standard features to its base trim. The large trunk in this ride adds more appeal to it as well. As for the 2019 Lexus ES, the fully-redesigned car has also added more standard features to it. Both of these cars appeal to the taste of modern-day car buyers. Find out more about what both cars can offer.
Design & Style
Gifted with a sturdy body, the 2019 BMW 5-Series easily stands out when placed alongside other luxury midsize cars. It has LED adaptive headlights, as well as 18-inch wheels highlighting its exterior. Those power-folding mirrors and automatic wipers work as expected. Inside it, you have a cozy and elegant cabin ready to accommodate up to five people.
For the latest offering of the Lexus ES, you will find a trim level that has 17-inch wheels, and LED headlights. It has a sunroof too. Inside it, you will notice that there is a lot of space in the rear seats, The dash is cleaner, but still has plenty of those unnecessary buttons on it. A few plastic panels in the cabin will surely be disappointing.
Technology & Safety
The 2019 BMW 5-Series has been blessed to have a wonderful set of technology and safety features. Topping the list is the iDrive infotainment system that does not fail to impress. It may take time getting familiar with this system, but that applies only to first-times. Apple CarPlay support is available as well. Safety features like blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and forward collision warning are found in this ride.
The 2019 Lexus ES, on the other hand, is gifted with a new touchpad interface. Despite this addition, functions are not as intuitive as those found in the 5-Series. Apple CarPlay integration is also available. Lane keeping assist and lane departure warning, forward collision mitigation, and dynamic cruise control are available for your safety.
The 2019 BMW 5-Series, it scores up to 248 horsepower for its four-cylinder, 2.0-liter engine. Meanwhile, the Lexus ES carries a V6 that yields up to 302 horsepower. Fuel efficiency ratings for these two cars show that the 5-Series is the winner with scores of up to 26mpg for city driving (figure for the ES is only 22mpg), while it yields 36mpg for highway driving (the ES gets 33mpg only).
The Bottom Line
These two cars prove to be tough competitors of each other. However, this comparison shows too that the 5-Series stands out over the ES, especially in terms of fuel efficiency ratings. Technologies and design aspects explain why this car deserves the much needed attention that it gets. You should be ready to purchase one.
