2019 BMW 4 Series vs. 2019 Lincoln Continental

The 2019 BMW 4 Series is exceptional in looks, performance and amenities. It is designed for those that want the absolute best and are willing to pay for it. But it faces a true contender in the 2019 Lincoln Continental, a swanky, upmarket vehicle that has received praise for its Black label cabin and irresistible horsepower.

Design & Style

The Lincoln Continental is notable for its stance that is forward hunched, as well as its excellent proportions for the front wheel drive. It has sharp taillights and headlights made from LEDs, with chrome trim and badges that are sided mounted. It has twenty inch wheels, with a serious and sophisticated overall appearance that makes it perfect for heads of state and members of royalty. The BMW 4 Series matches it perfectly, with curves as smooth as satin and silk. The windshield is swept back in a manner that produces a serene view of the horizon, with an interior that is opulently decorated and covered in premium materials.

Technology & Safety

The BMW 4 Series is equipped with multiple airbags and seatbelts, along with a camera for the rearview, systems for controlling stability, and protection against rollovers. Automatic emergency brakes are now a standard feature, and the car also comes with telematics which will automatically notify first responders in the event of an emergency. Inside, passengers will be treated to a sunroof, seats that can be power adjusted, large touchscreens, Apple CarPlay and climate control. The Lincoln Continental has many safety countermeasures of its own, including rollover protection, lane control, camera with surround view, park assist and blind area monitoring. It has received a five star rating from the NHTSA along with a Top Safety Pick through the IIHS, and gives passengers access to perks such as heated/cooled seats, a sunroof, sound system with nineteen speakers, climate control and Alcantara headliner.

Performance

The Lincoln Continental is big and as powerful as you’d expect for a car of its size and class. Base models come with a V6, 3.7 liter engine that can produce 305 horsepower, but those craving more action can upgrade to the V6 3 liter, that is twin turbo and capable of producing 400 horsepower. The BMW 4 Series comes with a turbo 4, 2 liter engine that can produce 248 horsepower with 258 pound of torque, capable of accelerating from zero to sixty in under 6 seconds. Drivers can also upgrade to the turbo 6, 440i variant which provides 320 horsepower with 330 pound of torque.

The Bottom Line

These two cars are closely tied for almost every metric. However, although the Lincoln Continental comes with extra horsepower, it comes at the expense of a six speed transmission that is outdated and a higher price tag, so the BMW wins.
