2019 BMW 3 Series vs. 2019 Chrysler 300

The 2019 BMW 3 Series is sought after for its good looks, excellent value, and standard safety features. But how does it stack up against the 2019 Chrysler 300, with its wonderful styling, high tech cabin and potent engines?

Design & Style

Visually, the Chrysler 300 is elegant yet powerful. It comes in an array of colors, with corners that are rounded with an extended classic hood. It goes for the short decklid look, and does it well, with a grille that is faired in and wheels that are twenty inches in size. Inside, the cabin is smooth and organized, with an analog clock, leather seats that are quilted, and wood trim that is naturally toned. The BMW 3 Series is well proportioned, with a slightly sportier appearance than its predecessor. The grille and hood meld together seamlessly, with molded inlets that have been widened and sculpted to accommodate fog lights. It has a kink in the back roof pillar that is pronounced, and the doors use frameless glass. The dash inside has been lowered for ease of access; the digital display has been widened.

Technology & Safety

The IIHS has awarded the BMW 3 Series its Top Safety Pick award. This is due to the car’s excellent outward vision, range of options and standard safety features such as emergency automatic brakes. It can also be outfitted with cruise control that is adaptive, lane control, and park assist. Within the cabin, passengers will be treated to oak trim, climate control, a sunroof, ambient style lighting, heated seats, and a wireless connection for smartphones. The Chrysler 300 has received a 4 star rating from the NHTSA. The IIHS gave it a good rating overall, but marginal score for its overlap protection. The car does have frontal collision notifications and automatic emergency brakes, but only when drivers purchase the higher trim. Within the cabin, drivers will be treated to soothing leather, touchscreens that are 8.4 inches, powered seats in front, UBS and Bluetooth support, and climate control which is dual zone.

Performance

The Chrysler 300 is highly regarded for its powertrains. It can be equipped with a V8 or V6, the first of which offers incredible power. All or rear wheel drive is also optional, as is automatic shifting. Those choosing the V6 will get 300 horsepower, while those selecting the V8 will 363 horsepower. The BMW 3 Series is outfitted with turbo 4 that provides 255 horsepower with 295 pound of torque, and can accelerate from zero to sixty in under six seconds.

The Bottom Line

Both of these cars are ritzy and designed for the well-heeled.  However, despite the fact that the Chrysler 300 has lots of horsepower, its safety scores lag behind the BMW, as does the base cabin and restricted space in the rear, so the 3 Series wins.
