The 2019 Chevrolet Camaro is a classic American automobile that has really come into its own. Its performance, alpha platform and magnetic ride system makes it a joy to drive. But how does it compare to the 2019 BMW 3 Series, a highly regarded car that has outstanding technology of its own, potent power trains, and a cabin fit for high society?
Design & Style
The 3 Series has all the hallmarks of classic BMW design, while maintaining its own distinction, not an easy task. It has a low slung frame which is sporty yet proportional, and well balanced in all respects. The grille and hood merge together seamlessly, and the front has been sculpted to accommodate molded inlets which are wider for its fog lights. The digital displays inside have also been widened, with touchscreens and ambient lighting which gives it a pleasant atmosphere. Visually, the Camaro is muscular and has an intimidating presence, a throwback to 1960s style muscle cars. The beltline is elevated, with a lowered roof and dash which provides more space inside. The car has a frame shaped like a bottle, with sills that are high, a top that is chopped and strong haunches in the rear.
Technology & Safety
The Camaro is devoid of emergency automatic brakes, and has limited outward vision. Despite this, its crash test grades have been respectable. It has 8 airbags, a camera for the rearview, blind area monitoring, cross traffic notifications for the rear and park assist. Inside, passengers will be treated to power seats that can be adjusted eight ways, satellite radio, keyless ignition, seven inch touchscreens and Apple CarPlay. Two zone climate controls is also available. The BMW 3 Series has received the prestigious Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS, due to the many safety countermeasures it has such as emergency automatic brakes, cruise control that is adaptive, lane control, park assistance and lane control. Passengers will be treated to a sunroof, oak trim, climate control, Bluetooth support, Android Auto, keyless ignition and leather upholstery.
The BMW 3 Series is bestial when it comes to performance. It comes with a turbo 4 engine that can produce 255 horsepower with295 pound of torque, enabling it to blaze from 0 to 60 in about 5.6 seconds. The Camaro also uses a turbo 4 engine, which is 2 liter and capable of generating 275 horsepower with 295 pound of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 in about 5.4 seconds.
The Bottom Line
While both of these vehicles are outstanding, the BMW completely outshines the Camaro when it comes to safety. Given the fact that Chevrolet didn’t bother to include emergency automatic brakes, the 3 Series is the clear winner.
