About Coram, NY

Coram is a hamlet in Suffolk County of New York with a population of around 39000. This community in Brookhaven town is served by Middle Country Central School District and Longwood Central School District. Coram refers to a passage between the valley and hills.  It has been taken from an Indian word Wincoram. It is known to be the oldest settlement in the central part of the town, and the name Wincoram is possibly of a Native American who lived here. William Satterly is likely the first European settler to have resided here. At the time of American revolutionary war, 300 tons of British Hay was captured and burned at what later became the corner of New York State Route 112 and New York State Route 25.
