BMW Group to Grow Capacity at South Carolina Plant

You might have noticed an influx of new BMWs driving around Saint James. But, this isn't the only area in which people are adopting the Bavarian luxury brand with increasing zeal. Drivers worldwide just can't seem to get enough of the BMW brand. To satisfy consumers voracious appetite for speed, on-a-dime handling and lithe looks, the German automaker produced over 70-percent more BMW autos than in 2010. Over 70-percent more! You probably don't need us to tell you; but this represents the highest production numbers the Bavarian automaker has ever achieved.
As the trajectory continues its upward trend in 2012, BMW is assessing ways in which it can boost production. The answer is to invest $900 million into the BMW production facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina and add 300 new jobs.
This expansion follows on the heels of four similar growth initiatives made 1994 (when the facility first opened) to 2011. One thing to note about the Spartanburg facility is that like the cars it makes, the plant is state of the art. Since 2006, the South Carolina BMW plant has managed to reduce energy consumer by nearly 50 percent, and waste/car by 65 percent.
BMW will invest the aforementioned $900 million into the eco-conscious plant 2012-2014. The 300 new jobs will all be added by the end of this year.
