BMW Gives Us Details on the New M5

BMW lovers rejoice! You will be happy to know that next-gen BMW M5 is heading to dealership lots (including Competition BMW of Smithtown), and it is looking really great. In fact, it doesn't just look great, it looks amazing! It might help for us to go into a little more detail, so that you too can see why the BMW M5 is yet again redesigning performance.

If you were an attendee of the Laguna Seca Raceway just outside Monterey, CA then this isn't anything new as BMW showed off the new M5 at this event. While they didn't confirm what model-year the new M5 will fall under, they did reveal a number of details about the prototype that wowed everyone in attendance.

First, and foremost, the BMW M5 will feature a brand new 4.4-liter V-8 engine, which will make use of dual twin-scroll turbos. This will help the next-gen M5 clock in at an incredible 560 horsepower and 500 lb.-ft. of torque. This calculates to an increase 10% and 20% for horsepower and Torque respectively!

But, BMW opted not to stop at merely increasing the M5's performance. Rather, as Brian Watts, BMW M Brand's Global Marketing Director, puts it, "Two years ago, we would've focused on straight line acceleration. Now we no longer limit it to one single factor."1 Indeed, the for the new M5, BMW focused on increasing the vehicle's fuel economy and safety as well.

Under the hood, the new M5 features BMW's Valvetronic technology. This allows the vehicle to adjust the intake and exhaust while in as need be in order to achieve 30 percent more fuel economy and to produce lower emissions. Meanwhile, the new Active Differential is poised to shift torque between the right and left rear wheels to provide better traction.

Competition BMW of Smithtown, located at 599 Middle Country Road Saint James, NY 11780, invites you to stay tuned for more info on the updated M5 as it becomes available.
